We just request that our building maintenance does a quarterly deep floor
cleaning in our lab. In the past I know they used a citrus type cleaner.
Besides that , they just conduct their regular nightly cleaning.

We recently found out that our equipment repair tech has retired. For our PM's

I use a excelsior and was told to always use Xylene in the cleaning cycle.
Since sub is not as pure as xylene ( obviously) you could be at risk of
developing paraffin clogs that the sub may not get. Using one xylene in the
cleaning has not effected the odor at all in the lab. Good Luck.

I use XS-3 from Statlab for staining. Since it is substitute I had to do some

Hello,
I have been processing our tissue (derm only) in our Shandon Excelsior using a
xylene free process with Iso Alcohol. A few years back it was set up that way

I use the Shandon Excelsior and use an overnight run with Iso Alcohol and only
use Xylene in the cleaning cycle. Our Thermo Rep came out and set it all up for
us. No problems with the processing. I also use sub xylene in staining with a

I have also noticed that the temperature in the lab makes a big difference. Now

I love our excelsior. Our previous processor was an ancient VIP. We have had it

Pros:

they were at the correct percentages

We are in the process of getting our new Lecia Autostainer delivered to us.
The question came up if we will still need to continue using our water

money but I don't want them to be unhappy with the result.

I was curious about any tricks out there for avoiding spills when setting

Does anyone have a method of topping off and dispensing their reagents into
the Autostainer or anyother stainer. Was thinking about using wash bottles.
I want to avoid as many counter spills and overflow into the next dish as I
can.
