Definitely go with Oil Red O rather than Osmium. Osmium tetroxide reacts with unsaturated lipids whereas ORO colours neutral lipids. You can do an ORO on formalin fixed tissue (frozen sections). You could also look at the Sudan Black techniques. Regards Tony Henwood JP, MSc, BAppSc, GradDipSysA
