I forgot about CMAP. I used it 10 years ago and Mike is right, it will
tell you probably more than you want to know. I also seem to remember
that it was something that needed to be done at the userid level. I
don't remember if it was kicked off by a command in the PROFILE EXEC or
just how it
Regarding DIRMAINT, in particular, as well as FTPSERVE and TCPIP, you
should not expect much to work in a newly restored VM system. You're
going to have to work your way thru the program directories that, I
assume, you received. Start with the base CP/CMS directory. For

Hey David,
Jeff sends me files from his VM to my VM all the time so I know the
routes are correct for both directions. The problem is that the file
originated on the VSE system before going to my VM reader so VSE is
getting the messages, not my VM id.

Solved. In the PROFILE TCPIP I uncommented only port 21. I had to do
that for port 20 as well. I should have paid more attention!
Thanks all for the feedbacks.

I would agree with those who have responded so far and that is that DIRMAINT should be out there somewhere.
We're running 5.2 here and DIRMAINT is on it. The only difference I noticed is that we installed from tape. I think you

5VMDIR10 is the product(installation/maintenance) userid for DIRMAINT.
My suggestion is to logon (not autolog) to 5VMDIR10 and look around a bit.
You should find sample directory entries for DIRMAINT and DATAMOVE there.

I still can't get DIRMAINT to run. Before I call IBM, I want to share

I see that there is a USER DIRECT in MAINT's A disk and I issued

product is enabled. I also noticed that DIRMAINT may be called 5VMDIR10.

That is frequently the case. If we have

You may not have a complete NJE routing table in place at the

to know about all the possible destinations and the path to get there.
Does BSIVM43 have route statements via BSIVSE27 for your nodes, or a

Also,
independent programs, such as DFSMS MODULE, call the ISPF segment. DFSMS

Without any specific knowledge, from context and the naming convention,
it's a control block that you'd hear about if you got into CP internals.

Oh, yeah, I had that one during
share in march 2005. Lots of NDMBKs and things fell apart.
Of course since the saved segment is used
through a call to a module, and the module is probably started by an exec,
change the exec to send a message to operator when it starts.

Martha,
Some more details on the VM hot-plug support.
VM should recognize the queues and leave them available for dedicated
use (APDED) if they were reserved for dedicated use in the directory,
but we don't change the queues we are using for queue-sharing without an
IPL. So even though VM would c

Hi JR,
That is another good approach that I had not thought

I would definitely not just import a directory from another
system. Look around for the direct file that must have gotten restored
when you restored the system. Going from z/VM 5.1 to 5.2 has got to
have given you some mdisks that are of a different size and location.

Colin,
CA V/Seg-Plus' SDF auditing facility can track this for
you. However it does require that the V/Seg CP mods have been
installed.
