Hi Lee,
Sorry, no suggestions. We were older than you, but we jumped VSE
first, from VSE/ESA 2.2 to VSE 2.6.2 and then moved from VM/ESA 2.3 to
z/VM 4.4. Both old releases ran fine on the 7060 we had to put in
first (not enough cycles to take the VSE turbo dispatcher overhead).

Adam,
Assuming the process hasn't changed in 5.3, you can do a second-level
install from DVD. The process is much simpler than a first-level
install. It shouldn't matter at all that you're on a Flex system. The
FTP server can be on Windows, Linux, or anything else that can read a
DVD drive. In

We have a VERY back level client (VSE 2.4 under VM 3.1) who is trying to
move into the 21st century. Their plan is to update VM to 4.4 (last
one that will run on their MP3000), then to upgrade VSE to
Hi, Mace.
I really don't know what the problem is, as IBM has not been very
forthcoming, at least imho, to the PWD membership. There have been no
new Flex-ES licenses granted since the end of last year, and sites are
already seeing their Flex boxes die as the dongle thingie expires.

I've been monitoring it and there are more questions and speculation
than answers.
The best thing to do is to bug PWD about it (which I exactly what I
intend to do).

It is so obviously a benefit to both companies. A compromise is easy, neither has to give much.
Therefore, it is unlikely to be resolved.
But,if Fundamental would buy out IBM. :)

We were one of the last PWD licenses. It's not yet clear whether IBM
will license 5.3 yet for those of us in that boat. Doesn't look good,
though.

Why and what do you (as in the VM community) feel the problem is?
Thanks

FLEX-ES version 7.0.7 does have the support necessary to install directly
from a DVD (with no FTP session involvement) on a FLEX-ES system.
I have a procedure available which will load the zVM 5 CP Nucleus and
ramdisk into memory and initiate the install process. I have used this

We've got 5.2 on ours, via PWD.

It's just PROP seems like basic VM capability but the cost of the OTC's
for 5 IFL's probably makes it not an option.
We had been under the impression that TCP/IP features were free.
