Use the recently posted DDR and FTPPUT pipe stages. *Much* simpler for
batchable tasks like that.

About 3 weeks ago there was a discussion on this list with a subject of
"DDR'ing 3390 DASD To Remote Location". If you look in the archives at
http://listserv.uark.edu/archives/ibmvm.html you should be able to find
the discussion or thread.

Get the PIPEDDR package off of the VM download site and use the FTP
option to dump or restore the disk to or from a file on an FTP server.
Or, you can get the DRPC package from the same place and use DDR to
do this, but you'll have to write your own Rexx exec to manage all the
details.

Using VMFTP, how is the best way to transmit full volume minidisks (mixed
CMS, VSE, and z/OS) to a backup site?

I remember that the "new blue" B&T cables were the faster. I don't
remember any others than gray altho I seem to remember seeing beige or
tan or whatever. I suspect that beige|tan|brown are the same as gray
but I don't know. At any rate, stick with blue and remember "gray away".

Sorry about that very late post. It was sent at 5:37 PM on Sept 8. I
have no idea what delayed it.
But now you have another idea on how to check for what's on what on MAINT.

I can't believe it, but I cannot find via Google
or the archives or inside www.ibm.com an explanation
of the speeds and color codes of parallel channel
cables. I think gray is 3.0 MBps and blue is 4.5,
but I've no idea what speed the beige|tan|brown
ones are.

Try scanning all the "* $PPF" files on MAINT's disks, you'll see that the
0402 disk is listed as the VMSES/E "UCENG help disk".

I feel shortchanged, my z/VM 5.2 only has 14,725 :)

My z/VM 5.2 system has 14,766 help files on MAINT 402.

Yes. It's a relatively recent development (and about 20 years too late
-- we could have been spared Windows entirely if DEC had bought a clue
way back when...*sigh*), but it's actually fueling a renaissance in VMS
Every so often (once a day to once a month), we have NJE disconnects and
reconnects. We have done packet traces and don't see any reason it
should be disconnecting.
From the RSCS console:
20:57:50 Socket error on link BSIVSE27 request=Recv
