Hi all:
On Tuesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 20 of next week, IBM is sponsoring a
Linux on System z Best Practices Seminar at the IBM offices in Minneapolis
and Atlanta respectively. The session is a really good half day event for
those looking to better understand which z/OS, Windows and Unix

You probably want:'EXECIO * CP (STEM LINES. STRING QUERY RDR * ALL'
STRING needs to be the last option... everything after it is taken literally
-- so you were executing CP QUERY RDR * ALL STEM LINES.

Hello Frank,
The EXECIO command is running well ?
I don't understand this
"EXECIO * CP (STRING QUERY RDR * ALL STEM LINES."

That's because it is a stem rather than a var. stems hold multiple variables in
lines.1 lines.2 etc. lines.0 holds the number of lines. set. so
say lines
should be
do i = 1 to lines.0
say lines.i
end

Hello Mark,
Yes, you correct.
This is like the "old" method that I used years ago.
But still have a little problem, look please :

4 *-* 'WAKEUP (RDR '

PiPE has been around for quite some time..
You would use PIPE 'instead of' EXECIO. For example: 'PIPE FILE OUTPUT
FILE A | STEM LINES.' -- reads the file OUTPUT FILE and puts it in the
REXX stem LINES.
There is lots of documentation...HELP REXX MENU is probably the easiest
to get to if
If I understand what you want
'EXECIO * CP (STRING QUERY RDR * ALL STEM LINES.'
Then do loop through the stem lines.

Hello,
Thanks very much to Mr. Jim, Scott, and Bob from all help.
The PIPE command, is something new under CMS ?
Can I run this PIPE against EXECIO ?
Have a documentation about this ?
This PIPE command run also under REXX / TSO ?

No - just add to the spec and parse:
'PIPE CP Q RDR * ALL | DROP FIRST | SPECS W1 1 W10 NW | VAR OUT'
Parse VAR out spoolid filename .
The specs say: put word 1 at position 1 of the output. Put word 10 as the
next word of the output. So the variable OUT now contains two words.
Scott Rohling
The output from the CP Q RDR ALL isn't stacked so the pull won't work.
Easier to use a PIPE to pull it in
'PIPE CP Q RDR * ALL | drop 1 | specs w10 1 | var filename'
or if there might be multiple files in the reader, make it
| stem filename.
instead of var and work through the files to find
Hello,
Very good, is working ...
If We need get other fields, like the number of the file, I need put 2 specs
command ?
Thanks

Put a do
Put a double quote ( " ) in front of PIPE --- the whole PIPE command
needs to be contained within either double or single quotes.

Hello,
First, thanks very much from your help, but may be I do some mistake here, my
REXX now is :
/* */
TRACE R
DO FOREVER
'PIPE CP QUERY RDR * ALL | DROP FIRST | SPECS w10 1 | STEM FILENAMES.'
If rc <> 0 Then Return
Do i = 1 to filenames.0
filename = filenames.i
/* do whatever here */
End
This handles more than one file being in the reader too...
Scott Rohling
On Wed, May 12, 2010 at 7:34 AM, Sergio Lima w
"PIPE CP Q RDR ALL | drop 1 | take 1 | specs w 10 1 | var $name tracking "
This may work.

I need do a REXX here, and unfortunatelly I forgot how do something.
The REXX is very easy, and is like this :
3 *-* DO FOREVER
4 *-* 'WAKEUP (RDR '
