I am trying to find some sort of source layout for the HISTSUM file. I
was hoping to write a program to read the file and either write some
reports or extract part of the data into another file. This is going to
be done on a z/OS (for give me) system. We are currently running z/VM
5.1.

We use PCs with 19 inch flat panel monitors. We run 4 "sessions" on
each screen. The PCs are running IBM PCOMM under Windows-XP. They are
all connect to OSA-ICC cards. At the local site we run one monitor per
PC and at a remote site we are running two monitors per PC.

We are running two IFLs. One on a z9 the other on a z990. With help
from the LAN network team and using a VSWITCH on each IFL we can move a
Linux around as needed. The users don't know it moved because the IP
address does not change. All DASD can be accessed from either IFL.

I have tried a search from the IBM main web page for www.vm.ibm.com to
see what I got. Any hits I got I could not connect to any of the urls
listed.

Up to now I have been using the "old" 3270 access. It always work fine
for me. I have talked to other staff members who are using the web
access. They all say the same thing. They have a problem with the
search function in Service Information Search (SIS). Sometimes new is
not always better.
I don't know if this will help. We are not running z/OS under z/VM.
The MIH for all of our DASD is set to two minutes (DASD=02:00). Here is
the JES2 info on the checkpoint. DORMANCY=(120,500) and HOLD=40. We are
running with 6 z/OS lpars in the same JES2 MAS.

I'm not at the office so I can't check what the HSA size is for our two
z9 boxes. I do know that it is close to 1.3 to 1.5 gig. The larger HSA
size started with the z890 and z990 boxes. I agree with what was said
about IBM taking customer storage for the HSA. It would be nice if IBM
could find
We are running z/VM 5.1 with RSU0502 and some additional PTFs. Our
VSWITCH setup is running okay. We run our Linux guest over the VSWITCH
connections. They talk to both z/OS and other platforms with no issues.
Here is what our QUERY VMLAN shows for maintenance level.

Be careful with how you define the MAXDEVS. It will have an effect on
your ability to do dynamic IO gen changes. I agree that the HSA has
gotten a lot bigger than it was. IBM's answer is it has to be bigger to
support all the new stuff.
