It has broken, and I would just like to remove the feature so that

Yes, I does work under z/VM 4.4.
I installed z/OS 1.7 as a guest machine, and later I promoted i to an LPAR.
For a z/800, these are the main issues:
1) z/OS 1.7 will not be able to use ZAAP processor because z/800 does
not support them.
This is a hardware limitation.
2) z/OS 1.7 comes

You can define as many LPARs as your machine type allows. Each LPAR will
have (one or more) standard CPUs or (one or more) IFL CPUs assigned to
it but not both. A CPU can be assigned to more than one LPAR. If you
wish to use both standard and IFL CPUs you must have at least 2 LPARs
defined.

Just a little off.
Your old understanding is still correct. But now if you have an IFL, it
must be in a LPAR(s) with only other IFLs. You can not mix standard CPUs
and IFLs in the same LPAR.
