Thanks for clarifying. The Plasma maintainers will need to take a further look
and see if there's something we can do here to guard against this.

It went away *on X11*, and back then still affected Wayland. That was however
around 2 years ago, and due to time and space constraints I am not able to test
it now with the current versions of Fallout 4, Gamescope and Plasma.

However, the provided SDL example still causes plasmashell to freeze on
Wayland.

Truth be told, I haven't experienced this behavior with any other game, so it
might be just an extremely niche issue that I was unfortunate enough to stumble
upon. I'll leave it to you if you want to close it.

Apologies for the delay.

It's been a while so my memory of the details is hazy at best. There were
multiple indications that pointed me towards the rapid icon-change being the
culprit (not saying it was the only one though):

1. The issue went away when "Icon-only Task Manager" was removed, the issue
went away (shell remained responsive)
2. Back then I was self-compiling Gamescope, so I tried to "printf" the
SDLBackend's SetIcon, and I think it produced a lot of logs
3. From that, I recreated the minimum SDL example provided above
4. After the fix in #2, I think the issue went away on X11

That is odd, Gamescope should still inherit the icon of the window it is
currently viewing. Also I don't think I encountered this issue with any other
combination that Fallout 4 + Gamescope.

I also tested and gamescope, running with the command you provided, doesn't
seem to alter the window icon at all. I don't have fallout 4 so I can't test
with that. Have you encountered with issue with anything else that's free on
the store?

Hi thederpyworld! I noticed that the program you used to trigger the issue was
one that rapidly changes the icons, do you have evidence that it's actually the
rapid icon change that triggers the freeze? I noticed that the gdb dump
references KX11Extras::windowChanged but to my understanding changing the title
or window size could also trigger that function.

I'm asking because I find it odd that a videogame would change it's icon many
times.
