I don't plan on fixing this for Trusty. Trusty has a very early upstream
commit, and it goes EOL in a few months. In my personal opinion, it's
not worth the many hours it'll take to properly backport and test it.

I'm not sure this should be done in kio-extras. As I mentioned in
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79943, the thumbnails are part of a
cross-desktop spec, so it seems inappropriate for any particular desktop
environment to do the cleanup on its own.
My suggestion is for it do be done in a DE-a
