Evelynn, I am also a self taught lace maker. You could use Mimosa 120 for the cotton thread. If you feel that it is too flimsy, you might want to go with something with a few less wraps like DMC Broder special 90 or DMC Fil a Dentelees 200. If you can get it BROK 100/3 works well with thos
