I travelled thru Britain in 1975 using my thumb, cheap trains, and staying
youth hostels. While hitchhiking was safer then, my friend and I still had
a very frightening encounter, hence the change to trains and buses. We met
some wonderful people throughout our journey and made some great friends
Oh yes! I'd agree with this suggestionI haven't said before, but I would
be very worried if anyone I knew was planning to sleep in parks in London or
elsewhere. Not safe at all.My daughter also uses the Youth Hostels whilst
travelling, and even now she can afford better, still prefers the

Like Jean, I don't like the sound of what your friends are proposing at
all. In Southampton the drop outs and homeless get moved on all the time.

At one time, at least tne of the parks in London had a cardboard city where
the homeless had erected cardboard shelters - woe betide anyone who tried to
use a shelter belonging to someone else. I think they've all now been
cleared out, and at least some of the parks are locked at night. We see
