I would appreciate a recommended procedure from the Legacy Staff on
how to close or exit and backup the new software after several hours of
data entry including adding pictures and sources. Am using 8.0.381 and
have thousands of pictures and over 45,000 people connected people. I
have been using your software for years, and have had excellent results
but have lost several hours of work recently. Please include step by
step recommendations on backups shutdowns, restoration etc.

Hi John, I work much the same way… not shutting things down as often as
I should.  However, in Legacy I close/reopen the file regularly, if not
closing Legacy, so if there is an issue, where Legacy has to close, I
can get back to the last person edited.  If Legacy closes, and I
restart, it seems to open to the person that was open at the time of
the last close – I lose my place.  Even though the file is pretty much
always saved as you go, I wish Legacy had a ‘Save File’ button where it
would then keep track of everything as it is at that time. Because of
recent issues/problems with Legacy I have been closing/restarting,
rebooting, quite often – still no notification about
upgrades. Bob   From: John Roose [mailto:jbro...@gmail.com]

 Bob -

You are not alone in having this problem! In Legacy 7 it would notify
me of a new build; not so in Legacy 8. When I raised this issue before
on this list, support told me that I had to close Legacy for the
notification to be made. I started doing just that (previously I would
let Legacy run for days at a time) and did NOT get notified that 381
was available except on this list! When I clicked on "Check for
updates" it said there was one. I did not follow up; rather, I closed
Legacy, shut down my computer, restarted everything. Still no
notification. I then did update with no problem. But, the notification
does not work for me either.

I now check frequently. I do wonder how many others have this problem?

Legacy about an update.  It always says I have the latest build.  I
live in Canada and hear about the upgrades from a colleague in

to overwhelm the system.  I have to go to the Legacy website and look
for the updates and download/install from there.

The procedure now treats the upgrade like a new installation, complete
with emailing me a temporary password.  And there is also the entire
66MB file to download each time which can present a problem for those
with slower connections.
