NarayanAras: do you see the issue with a daily build, Win-x86_64@tb103-1-TDF

I followed the request to reproduce the issue using content copied from an HTML
file opened in a web browser.

I generated the same type of multi-page table via ChatGPT, exported it to an
HTML file, opened it in a browser, selected all content, and pasted it into
LibreOffice Writer. I then applied the same formatting steps as described in
the original report (setting borders for all cells and disabling “Allow rows to
break across pages”).

Results:
Stable version (25.8.3.2): a noticeable freeze occurred for about 5 seconds
after applying the table formatting. Writer recovered afterwards, but the UI
was temporarily unresponsive.

Beta version (26.2.0.0.alpha1+): no freeze occurred; the operation completed
smoothly and instantly.

This suggests that the issue is reproducible in the stable build but appears to
be improved or resolved in the current beta

I’d be happy to complete this task. If you don’t mind, I can do it later in the
evening, as I’m not at home right now.

Tested on Windows 11 22H2 64-bit (build 22631) with LibreOffice 25.2.0.0.alpha0
(X86_64) and 7.6.6.2 stable (X86_64).

In LibreOffice Writer, I opened a new document, pasted text from ChatGPT
consisting of a small paragraph followed by a table spanning 2–3 pages, and
applied table formatting by setting borders for all cells and disabling “Allow
rows to break across pages.”

Observed behavior: Writer became completely unresponsive immediately after
applying the table formatting. The mouse pointer could move, but text
selection, button clicks, and context menus did not respond. The toolbar also
showed a noticeable delay of approximately 10–15 seconds. Task Manager reported
0% CPU, and the program remained frozen indefinitely. Running in Safe Mode did
not resolve the issue.

While this does not cause a crash, the issue reproduces consistently in both
versions tested. The alpha version freezes faster, though the stable version
also shows delays and unresponsiveness when performing the same steps.

Conclusion: Bug reproduced — Writer becomes unresponsive when applying table
formatting to a multi-page table with borders and disabled row splitting, and
the toolbar responds with noticeable delay.

Maybe if you save the ChatGPT answer in the web browser as HTML, then we can
open it on the browser and copy to Writer, to test if the issue is
reproducible.

sample file

I copied this text from ChatGPT and pasted it in a new odt file.
Then I selected the table and selectedblack solid line for its borders.
Even before I had a chance to save it, Writer became unresponsive.
I had to kill it.

In the second round, I pasted the text and saved it immediately.
(The only difference was that I did not select the table and make its borders
solid this time.)

So to simulate the failure, probably you should select all text, and paste it
in a new odt file, and then select the table and draw borders. Wait for some
time. Writer may freeze.
