I have exported the document as a PNG image twice: 1) Exported with the suggested 1403x1984 pixels from the export dialog. The resulting image is just that big, which is very low resolution. 2) Exported with the calculated size of a DIN A3 paper with 300 PPI, which is 4961×3508 pixels. The resulting image is of that size, but the resolution is off. It looks like it was exported at a smaller size, and then enhanced. Zooming into the document shows crisp quality, no issues. I will attach a zoomed-in screenshot of the three cases for clarity. Setting the environment variable PDFIMPORT_RESOLUTION_DPI to 300 and restarting LibreOffice Draw, I still get the same PDF output with the 500x500 pixel image, just as before. Right clicking the picture and looking into the "Compress" menu was indeed new to me, and this displayed a size of 3315x3315. I unchecked "Change image resolution" and exported it again, but I still get the really low resolution 500x500 picture in the PDF. However this is not a bug. Each image inserted to LibreOffice canvas gets its own handling. Key is to use the image's context menu "Compression..." dialog to set handling for each when default scaling is too course. The PNG image with the 26 May event is being down sampled in resolution too far so appears smeared--you can adjust that but the exported PDF will grow. And, when exporting to PDF you can set the 'Lossless compression' as well as the export 'Change image resolution to' DPI. But that can "smear" the images. Also, should use the PDFIMPORT_RESOLUTION_DPI environment variable set higher (default is 96 dpi) to control the bitmap resolution of any imported *OR* exported PDF graphic used within the LO modules. Some mix of those controls should resolve with those steps and result in the source PNG and JPEG image graphics at some higher resolution as set in the "Compress..." dialog, as well as any pdfium "inserted" PDF at full resolution. I was able to get the resulting PDF to closely match the combined size of the two inserted images so at ~18.2MB. Too high a resampling DPI and the resulting PDF export grows too large to process.
