Hi, Jpg's are stored in an expanded format in .cst and .dir files. I have some huge source cast files because of this. When you compile your files into projector/dcr/cct files they should return to their original compressed size, and maybe a bit better when you throw in shockwave compression. S

Is there any way other than changing the bit depth of an image to decrease it's size in Director? I have d7 and several images that are about 2 Mb jpgs, when I import them to dir the palette they use is 16 bit but the image size is now 4 mb. Can anyone offer any advice or help. Thanks, Brad

Have you tried charToNum and numToChar? you won't be able to remove the " so it will look like "'mystring'" Why do you need the quotes removed anyway? A string is a string is a string. If you're looking to extract a variable name, meaning turing "mystring" into mystring, then use value. myst

Hi, If you know the corresponding name, number or reference of the member that is supposed to contain the Graphic, you can use the type property of the member (eg: member("logo").type or the type of member("logo")). The type should be #picture or #bitmap depending on the format of your graphic.
