For most of the last year and a half, it has been noted that there have
been compatibility problems with the CD Pro Xtra running under Mac
OS/9. Unfortunately, these have been hard to nail down and fix.

After spending most of the year looking at this, and with some help from
Apple, it seems that the problem is with the Apple drivers, most notably
those before version 1.38 (primarily versions 1.34 and 1.35). Reportedly,
machines with 1.38 and higher work fine. Tests with 1.4 seem to run perfectly.

That the problem is in the Apple driver is both good and bad. On the good
side, existing ECDs are not invalidated with a "bad" copy of CD Pro, since
CD Pro works fine, given a good Apple driver. On the bad side, for
Shockwave work, it's not as simple as updating CD Pro, since to resolve the
problem really requires the user to get a current (good) driver.

At any rate, that is where it is. We have been unsuccessful in getting
Apple to approve our distributing the v1.4 version of their driver, so
exactly how you should recommend update is unknown. Perhaps some pressure
on Apple might change the situation. Knock on your Apple rep to find out
how to get an approved update.
