thx to all on this. I ended up using the hardware console based approach (man is that a nasty user interface imho) to find this as my SuSE system is not up to the level where /proc/sysinfo works. thx again to all for your excellent help. chris

we have an MP3 but aren't sure if it's a 7060-H30, H50 or H70. What command can we issue, and where from, to find out which one we have? tyia.
