If you want to use XCDRoast make sure the directory the iso is in is in the
list of XCDRoast directories. Then got to create CD/write tracks and
layout. In the image-information window you'll see your isos. Select one,
add it then accept track layout. Click on write tracks and then burn it.
Check out mknod - it's used for making block or character files.

Trying to install my new CDRW and managed to delete /dev/scd0, /dev/scd1 AND
/dev/sr0 and /dev/sr1. It seems that the "real" devices were /dev/scd? and
the symlinks were sr? and in was inadvertently assuming the other way 'round.

I didn't look to see if devfs was turned on. I copied the .config from
/usr/src/linux to /root/linux where I was doing the new kernel and used make
oldconfig to make sure it had the same parameters as the original kernel,

error on boot. I should note that this was my first attempt at kernels, also

Can you not edit /etc/lilo from any partition, and run lilo with the -C or
-m or chroot options? Read man lilo about this.
I think this is why some people make a /boot partition.
Make a boot disk before you try this.

have been booting to redhat, modifying the lilo.conf there to access
changes in my setup (adding other distros, etc) then running
/sbin/lilo from there, making sure to mount all effected partitions,

No quite sure. Been awhile since I fooled with Caldera. But, remember
that I could only get my printer to set up using Lisa in the root login
(not su in the user login.) I was lucky and the printer was on Lisa's
limited list and it set right up.
