On my box, there is no /dev/none, do you mean /dev/null
y have the host
mentioned in /etc/hosts, works perfectly.

If you know the model of the nic, just make an etherboot-floppy.

Get the display manager going. See the ltsp manual

removing the HD, put in another computer as
slave, mount it, edit /etc/passwd, put it back into the original
computer and logging is as root?
Putting sensitive data in encrypted files helps alot more.

Yes, it resembles problems I had before turning on NFS swap. How much
RAM has the clients?

Why not use a dedicated box to serve the LTSP clients with kernel, NFS
etc. and let them login to the MS W2K with rdesktop?

Debian 3.0, released in july 2002, support 11 architectures and does
not use optimised binaries.

gwin? BTW it is X servers, (XDMCP is only used for
the login prompt).
vnc is also an alternative, of course.

What distribution do you use?
(~/.xsession should work for all, but it's not The Right Way, partly
since you must manually add it when a new user is added).

"sender" concept when handling mailing lists gives you the power to
easily respond to the list, or the original poster. Kmail has that
capability, read the manual (I think it is "L" (or is it "l"?) instead
of "r").

tboot solutions is the wrong tool to try that. Set
the runlevel of the workstation to 3 in lts.conf. Start X manually
with
root~:# /usr/XR611/bin/XFree86 -query 192.168.0.254
or
root~:# /usr/XR611/bin/XF86_SVGA -query 192.168.0.254
or whatever X server you want to try out.
