There are several such devices out there. I first encoutered them with a Senheisser headset some years ago. The headset cable terminated in a pair of 3.5 mm plugs, one for headphone, one for microphone. Senheisser also included a USB dongle with two 3.55 mm jacks for those cables so that one could
