ACK, you could use crosstool-ng to create a clean sysroot'ed crosscompiler.

Unfortunately, mc depends on glib2, which is not crosscompile'able
out-of-the-box - just have at the many AC_TRY_RUN() calls in its
configure.ac file.
I'm still working on that in the OSS-QM project...
