ordered a Sony MDS-JE630, to arrive next week. This

This program would use "text-to-speech
The extra 1.5V is not doing the MD recorder any good. You need a 3V adaptor
for it. Just get a 3V regulated supply (rated at 500mA) and that will get
you out of trouble.
