DVDs have two forms of protection, one in the analog world, and the other in
the digital world. Both are EASILY breakable! The digital protection, known
as Content Scrambling Sytem, uses 400 40-bit keys to encrypt the .VOB video
stream. Each software/player manufacturer has a decryption key. You
I had a strange experience a few days ago.
Ever since purchase, a couple of Maxell blanks would simply refuse to play
on my Panasonic players (MJ75, over a year old, and MJ88, about 4 months
old). Having read some Japanese forums, I risked trying to wipe the dust

or maybe i should say correct but a little information was either left out
or not known. there is a key protection on the cd itself that protects the
data, then you are correct about there being macrovision, but it is not

I have a practically new JVC XU-301 MD-CD combination deck that is
suddenly ejecting all minidiscs after trying to read theirTOC's. All the
track numbers on the "music calendar" display remain lit. I tried
reseting the unit by leaving it unplugged for an hour, but that doesn't
help.
Any advice

I bet quite a few of us would have seen that as setting the
next msb bit even as they read the email first time. Or is
it only us peeps whose early programming days included some
machine language (in my case the ancient Z80) who can still
think in binary/hex almost as easily as decimal?

You could buy one, check it out and return it. It isn't the best way to
do it. just a thought. YOu might get stuck with a second unit. Of
course you could always sell one of them if you get them both working
and decide to keep the second one.

well, 1,3,7,15,31 is (2^n)-1, though the rest of the pattern seems irregular.

Hi,
I have just observed that the shuffle repeat track order is always the same
on the same disc! So if I have heard one disc with shuffle then next time I
insert the disc and hear it with shuffle the track order will be the same. I
have tried with a disc with 58 tracks the order was always 1, 3
