This is from experience, and I'm almost certain it's because Aribusses are
fly-by-wire and therefore much more vulnerable to RF interference.

My guess is that while MDs and CDs don't "transmit" any signal, they
probably do output a lot of RF interference. I can't work out at which stage
this occurs though. The major problem comes from any oscillator that has
harmonics in the frequency ranges that are used by the plane's control
systems
Minidiscs also feature in Strange Days, where they're used to record entire
experiences for later playback. Now that's impressive compression...
