I am considering the purchase of a portable MD recorder. Most likely it
will be either a Sony MZ-R50 or a Sony MZ-R55.

I know very little about major differences in these two units, but have
read that the MZ-R50 has a thumb wheel that makes titling a relatively
easy task. The MZ-R50 is available from Crutchfield for about $290. Is
this a fair price? Can anyone comment on Crutchfield's reliability as a
supplier?

On the other hand, I have read that titling is cumbersome on the MZ-R55.
Are there other significant features on the MZ-R55, besides size,
weight, and aesthetics appeal, that would make it a better overall
choice than the MZ-R50 for my first MD recorder?

Or are there other units in the near term horizon that might be
worthwhile holding out for?

Can anyone recommend a microphone particularly well suited for either
unit? Purpose of microphone would be to record mostly speech, i.e..
lectures, etc.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to your insightful comments.
