It depends.
BitStream or 1 bit D/A converters are cheaper to produce/implement than a 16-20
bits D/A converter of an equal quality. The thing is that I must yet see a 1 bit
high-end D/A converter!

I should also add that "1 bit" does not refer to the resolution or bit width
of the convertor, and is a bit of a misnomer. The actual resolution of a 1
bit D-A is determined by the capacity of its counter and the frequency
multiple of the sampling rate that its clock runs at.
