Yes, the record head sits on the disc surface, lubed by a small drop of

Hi. Now there is also head cleaner. Although the lens doesn't not touch the MD,
doesn't the head actually make contact?

The cleaner has bristles for whisking dust or such off the lens, but the
bristles can scratch the lens itself, doing worse damage.

I say don't clean it unless it doesn't work right. Leave the lens
cleaners on the shelf at the store. IMHO of course.

Lens cleaning only needs to be done in dire circumstances - as Jim said, for

A tape head comes in contact with the tape and some of the ferrous
coating gets rubbed off the tape onto the head. Also, the tape i

Hello
I will be the first of many to say "DO NOT USE A LENS CLEANER!!!"
The lenses on MD players are made from plastic and get scratched by
lens cleaners. The best way to clean a dirty lens in my opinion is a
cotton bud and some good quality cleaning fluid.
All the best

Hi all,
I'm wondering if it is worth while to invest in a lens cleaner. Most of them
claim to inprove the playback and recording quality. Has anyone tried using
any type of lens cleaner disk? Do they work?

Hi Marc,
I had the same problem. Both with my CD player and my PC based CD burner. Later

It has been discussed on this list that lens cleaners are dangerous. With
the MD, the consensus seemed to be, do not use them.
Any thoughts on using a CD Disc cleaner to solve some CD player and burner
problems?

Certainly, plastic is much more susceptible to being scratched.

So far, I have avoided buying the $20 lens-cleaning disk for my Sharp 722
MD recorder. However, I find myself using the recorder a lot, so my
questions are:
How important is it to use a lens cleaner? How often should the lens be
cleaned?
Thanks in advance,
