If you fail to patch libtool, the error below is exactly what you will see:

I just ran into this myself a few weeks ago
mod_perl.so into server:
/tmp/mod_perl-2.0.8/src/modules/perl/mod_perl.so: Undefined symbol
"modperl_io_perlio_restore_stdout"
