I do remember hearing some collectors use this term in the 80's. As our friend Lou Ann in Oklahoma correctly pointed out, the term cannot be found in any pressbook. However, as Kirby pointed out, there do exist some rare pieces which are printed on the same paper as one sheets, and they do measure close to twice one sheet size and not 40 x 60". They are always folded, and seem to usually have been for exploitation-type films.

But I don't have a problem with calling 40x60 card-stock Drive-In posters "two
sheets" -- it's an appropriate name.

Disagree. Don't know where/how JW came up with this, but not only is it not a term in general use, it doesn't make any sense either. Just do the math; a 'two sheet', if such an animal exists, would be 41x54, (or I suppose 27x82), NOT 40x60, i.e. the size of two onesheets, analogous to 3sheet, 6sheet, etc. 'Approximately' the same size isn't close enough, in my book. Might as well call a quad a 1sheet, if you consider this kind of approximation 'good enough'.

A 40x60 is just that. Calling it a 2sheet is misleading.

I just don't think you'll ever find the
term used in a studio pressbook to describe a 40x60 is all

I suspect that's correct. So where did the term come from, hmm? Sounds to me like someone just made it up.

There is no mention of "two-sheet" in the LAMP article on movie poster sizes, which is exhaustive. I personally never heard of or saw the term "two-sheet" used until Jon and some other people started tossing it around a few years ago. But  I don't have a problem with calling 40x60 card-stock Drive-In posters "two sheets" -- it's an appropriate name. I just don't think you'll ever find the term used in a studio pressbook to describe a 40x60 is all (now watch somebody prove me wrong...).

But we've got a nickname for every other poster size, so there's no reason the 40x60 shouldn't have one and two-sheet is appropriate, given that it is roughly twice the size of a one-sheet.

Zeev:

I have this information out of Jon Warren's book listed under other sizes. If I am incorrect than this is incorrect information in Jon's "Movie Poster Price" I-Guide Book. In the book it states "Two Sheet or 40" x 60" American silkscreen process on heavy stock valued at 100% to 300% of the one sheet price. This is in the 5th edition.

I use the 45" x 59" subway interchangeably.

Best, Tom Pennock .
