My wife had an unfortunate experience with what I believe was a Northern Saw-whet Owl on Friday morning. On the entrance ramp to highway 7 east from Mill Road (or Powers Blvd) she spotted a tiny owl sitting on the side of the ramp. Concerned that it was a fledgling or injured owl, she stopped a

I got a call from a neighbor in Marshall County around noon. She had a small owl in an evergreen by the Snake River. I thought it might be a Boreal, but it turned out to be a Northern Saw-whet. -- Heidi Hughes Agassiz Audubon Society 27391 190th Street NW Warren MN 56762 218.745.5663 http:/

As I looked out my Lodge window this morning I was very surprised to see a small owl roosting on a tree limb. I believe it to be a Northern Saw-whet. The owl roosted from 8:10 am until 2:40 pm changing once to another tree giving us an even better view. Lucky day. It roosted very close to one o

I found a Northern Saw-whet Owl today in the woods by our home along the St. Croix River. If you look at the photo, there is an unidentified food item on the tree branch in front of the bird. We had a saw-whet owl for the Christmas Bird Count, about 2-3 miles from the bird today. Not sure if

Several people have back-channeled asking for directions to where I had found the owl last night.  It was at the same location reported two times earlier this month by others. Enter Resevoir Woods from Larpenteur.  Go down the path from the east end of the parking lot.  Go to mile marker 0.3.

Once again heard a saw-whet at Reservoir Woods in Roseville - last time was on March 4th, with two other unsuccessful attempts to hear one since then. (Birding after dark is very addictive!) So, can someone tell me more about saw-whets in the metro area? According to the bba handbook, they are c

Heard at least one Northern Saw-Whet tooting away in Reservoir Woods in Roseville this evening around 8 p.m. It was not far from the Larpenteur entrance, up the path heading from that entrance, past the dog park on the right.
