You could boot into single user mode.

Boot with the CD or install disk, and start answering questions to start
the installation. After each question, check on Alt-F2 to see if

I have installed linux-mandrake 5.3 on a 6x86
Cyrix 120. The problem is I can't get linux to recognise my modem - rockwell PCI
speakerphone 'internal'. In windows it is COM 4 as I have a mobile phone modem
"nokia data suite" on COM 2 & 3.
It's IRQ is 10 and linux doesn't know what it
is.

You could make out you want yo upgrade your Linux by using your boot.img
disk to boot, presumably there's nothing to upgrade so you'll be through the
process very quickly then tell it you want a boot disk made and that you
want it to set LILO. Shouldn't take long at all. Tom
Here you go tom, try these out.

Thanks for the pointer. I doubt logout is a good idea, because you're not
always in a situation where a shell is running. What I did
Is there anyway to get around the Linux login screen. You know where you
enter your login name and password. I have heard of people getting this to
work correctly, I just don't have the slightest clue how? Thanks in advance.

Although I haven't tried it, you might just comment out the
ctrl-alt-del action in the inittab file (/etc/inittab).

Doh
Hi Michael,
I'm by no means a Linux guru; however, I think you'll find
that the following solution will work for you:
go into your /etc/inittab file (this is the file that
defines runlevels) - and find the line that looks like:
ca:ctrlaltdelete:/sbin/shutdown -r now
this line essential

Not exactly a Mandrake specific question, but there's lots of good advice here.
We've just moved one of our servers from WinNT to Mandrake 5.3 this
weekend. No problems with desktop's etc., since the machine is basically
just a big file and print server. However, what we've discovered is that

Hi,
For some reason I am not able to boot LinMand from floppy disks.
It works when booting form CD-Rom on a different computer (PII-366-64MB),
but it is not possible to boot from CD-ROM from this computer (P100-96MB).
I made boot floppies etc. But the only thing I get is the menu, in which I

I use kfm and I want to suppress Templates and Startup icons on my
desktop.
I tried to delete them, to modify file $KDEDIR/share/config/desktop
but they are always back each time I login :=(

Hey everybody, I am currently working on a mp3 car sterio system for my
