My brother and I have been having troubles understanding the .htaccess file.
When he copies the same .htaccess file in some directories it works, ie
authentication window pops up, but the same file in other directories does
not bring up the window, but allows access to the directory.

what processor are you using and did you change the processor type to the appropriate
one when you recompiled? I change mine from 586 to PPro and there is quite a bit of
difference in performance ;-)

That's an interesting answer... I've done kernel rebuilds quite a few times
with quite varied outcomes. It almost always works, yet very seldom does it
work better than it did before the rebuild. What I would like to see on my

cards that are shipped with Gateway computers are not yet supported because

7.2, 'most' everything is fine, except!, now I have no access to my CDROM
drives (1 Burner, 1 reader) or my LS-120 floppy. The only
