I've tried the new Software Manager in LM 8.0 with the intention of
updating (the old MandrakeUpdate). My apologies if I am just blind, but
repeated attempts at updating have failed. I do not see any FTP
addresses or any instructions on how to perform the update. Could
someone pleas

the external modems (usually 98%of them) works with linux...i have an
us.robotics 56k v90 modem and i dont have any problems with it...you can

won't start. When I try to start it, I get the revolving disk icon on

I pressed the right mouse button while the pointer was over the clock
display and selected the desired entry from the format submenu. This is
under Gnome. YMMV w/ KDE.

Not true about the external modem,, do not get a USB modem unless you know
for SURE, its not a winModem, many are...
If you are getting an external, get a serial modem,, at least that way you
can be sure its not a winmodem,, and make sure its hayes compatable...

When you source your .bash_profile do you get any errors? When

Windows should still be there but you should have installed GRUB on the
master boot record. This would give you the option to boot the OS's on your
PC.

In /etc/hosts you can run a "min-DNS server" for lack of a better
