Using Apache + PHP + PostgreSQL from the LM8.2 distribution, register_globals
defaults to "on".
After building my prototype db-driven website with globals on, I decided to
switch to $_SESSION: I had to turn globals=off. I edited the php.ini file and
changed register_globals to off. Unfortunate

Speaking of Suse, do Suse RPMs generally work with Mandrake these days? I
manged to install a few back in Mandrake 7.0 days, but I was wondering if the
distros had drifted apart - I've heard Suse is a bit quirky.

I suspect the problems I've been having with OpenOffice spadmin (hangs
whenever I try to run it) are to do with changes I've made to my xfs config
file. Is there a way to create a new standard config file (as per
installation)? I've tried various drakfont options to no avail.

I also have a question regarding SuSe. It seem Red Hat is targetting corporate
america, Mandrake is targetting newbies, Slackware is targetting the hardcore
users. What is SuSe targetting? Or are they just trying to be an allround
distribution. It is the one major distro I have never tried.
