The errors was that all depencies of mysql was conflicting with
mysql-4.0.15.2mdk..
Now that's was weird.
By the time you will read, I've already installed mysql with the source
tarballs. I'm satisfied by the way I did it but it works.

Easy. Open up the Mandrake Control Center, go to Software Management, pick
remove software, all packages, type in "kdeartwork" in the search box
then you need to start your system with init level 3 to avoid X coming up,
now on traditional lilo setups there is instant access to a boot prompt, at
which you would type:
linux init 3
assuming your kernel was called 'linux'
