I've heard that the Cooker kernel updates fix the PS/2 mouse and TP
Trackpoint problem. What is the best way to download and install these
patches?
All that I have is a 56K Modem from a Win2k machine. [the sound / modem

Since this isn't a newsgroup, every time a new user downloads or buys LM
8.0, we get the same batch of questions. For example, issues related to LM
and a PS/2 mouse or the IBM trackpoint.
Any chance on someone from Mandrake archiving and reposting some of these
FAQ's?

Not without a fair amount of work. I tried the kernel upgrade, that broke
my network card support. So in the end, I decided that for the time being,
just plugging in a serial bus mouse was the easiest solution.

I've got Win98 on my first HD, and an old 7.2, non-booting version of LM on
the 2nd HD. When I laid down win98,it stepped on the boot sectior, so lilo
was wiped out and I haven't been able to boot in LM since.
Both drives are IDE. I've given up trying to upgrade the 7.2 install (the

Where are all the games located? I've only loaded KDE (ie no Gnome). In
previous releases, they were located under a games menu option. Now, even
though the package manager says that they are loaded, they don't show up.
Now, this is critical. My kids love Linux, cuz they like its games :-)
The solution ... don't use a PS/2 mouse. Just plug in a $3.00 (I might
have paid $4.00 for it) serial mouse into the serial port, Mandrake
recognizes it on boot and off you go. This worked great (as a work-around).
Of course, that eats up the one and only serial port, but at least I am
able
to no PNP.
My BIOS is current, but it doesn't offer this option (at least not anywhere
I can find).
Oh well, I guess I'll either have to switch to Red-Hat, or stay with 7.2.
Tx anyway.

So for the time being, Mandrake 8.0 doesn't support, nor run on an IBM
Thinkpad, and presumably, any computer using a PS/2 mouse.

I successfully installed several versions of 7.2, including the latest freq
pack. However, the install program for 8.0 won't recognize either my
trackpoint, nor an attached PS/2 mouse. I've tried both.
I am running on a IBM Thinkpad 600 with Max memory (298 MBytes I
believe). PS/2 Mouse sup
