You should have created a passoword for root during
the install. At the prompt, type root and hit the
enter key -- then type in your password.

I am using an ATI Xpert128 and downloaded the rpm from
suse and followed their instruction to get it working.
They only left out one step I have found needed to be
done to get it installed and that was to delete
/usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA before running xf86config. It
appears, from one of the posts
assuming you have everything running right, then after
you log in, type startx to get kde or gnome running.

If that's the actual mount command you are using, you
are leaving our one thing. If it is a DOS partition,
then the mount command would have to have -t vfat
after mount. If it is a linux partition, then you
would include ext2. At least that's my understanding.

First of all, your video card may not be supported.
If you see the card in the list, then it's supported.
If it is not in the list, there may be no driver for
it. Secondly, you can use an unlisted card by running
XF86config. You need to know the resolution
attributes of your monitor and the c

You should be able to manually input the card

my AWE64, but the manual install gets it running fine.

The short answer is no. AOL isn't supported in Linux
and you have to use the AOL software to connect to
AOL.

When I had a similar problem it turned out to be a DNS
server problem. I reset the KPPP information for the
two DNS servers my ISP used and everything worked
after that.

Had a similar problem when I installed my Xpert128
during on installation. I found, the if I rebooted
after installing the RPM and before running
XF86Config, it resolved the problem. Make sure you
take your time and put in the setup correctly (ex 432)

PCI is just the interface, as long as you are sure
it's not a Winmodem, then it should work fine as long
as the PNP is getting loaded properly.

AOL Has to run to dial-up. AOL 5.0 is PPP compatible, but the AOL software
has to be running. It will only run under Windows, so Linux isn't going to
work.

It's true that USR doesn't exist as a separate company since they were
absorbed by 3Com, however, they still sell modems under the USR Brand name.
All external modems are serial modems. Their ISA internal modems are not
Winmodems unless labled such. I believe them may make ONE PCI modem that
The default reset is ATZ. ATZ and ATZ0 are exactly the same command. ATZ4
is the appropriate reset for hardware flow control.

The default settings for kppp use ATZ for resetting your modem. Try
changing it to ATZ4 and make sure the other setting is for hardware flow
control, not software control.

Most PCI modems are Winmodems. If your motorola is a Winmodem, you can't

It isn't Mandrake that doesn't support it, it's XFree86. My Rage128 isn't
included either, but I was able to obtain a driver from SUSE that works just
fine. You might be able to find driver information by searching at Redhat.
If not, then maybe someone here will be able to come up with some
XConfigurator may very well work for you. If, like I do, you have a video
card or monitor that isn't supported with the current version of XFree86,
then it is a bit more involved. I use xf86config which allows you to

My internal Zip is an ATAPI IDE and it mounts with /dev/sdb4 The primary
controller is running the HD and I set the Zip up on the secondary
controller as the master and I have a Sony Superstation running as the
slave.

I haven't heard of any PCI modem that wasn't a Winmodem. If the modem is a
Winmodem, you won't be able to run it in Linux.
