Actually I've found my foomatic database is way out of date. I'm in the

I've got my HP OfficeJet 720 printer working on my WalMart
Mandrake 8.2 using the CUPS HP DeskJet 550C driver, but it's only
giving me 300dpi resolution. The printer supports 600dpi and at one
time I thought I stumbled across a WWW based configuration tool that
offered that, but now I can't fi

I'm wrasslin' with my thinnet ethernet setup. I have a 16 bit ISA
ethernet card with BNC (thinnet) connector that worked great on my
old Novell setup. Well, actually I have two identical ones, but more on
that in a minute.
They are pretty standard NE2000 cards, with a dp8390-1A chip. I've

I've tried both, Gimp more briefly than KMail. My verdicts:
KMail: Very good, faster than Pegasus on downloading mail. I'm not
wild about the display -- I like Pegasus's windowing better than the
frame-like interface of KMail. Pega
and Pegasus are Windoze apps they are NOT
out of Redmond, whose stuff I do not wish to associate with ever
again. I just want to see the best features of non-Msft Windoze apps
available for Linux, preferably as ports, otherwise under emulation. .

Ooops, sorry. It's model AR805, and cost $498 plus shipping and

There's part of the rub. I don't have a win98 license, and I don't intend
to get one, nor any other Windows license. I have heard very good

I connect to the internet via a 56k modem, and, of course, my ISP
then assigns me an IP address. I also have a LAN. Can I (should I?)
then also assign a fixed IP address for my LAN in the network setup
wizard? If so, are there any rules as to what the address should be,
other than nnn.nnn.nnn.
My WalMart Linux box came with an ISA slot on the motherboard. I've
got an ethernet card, pretty generic, 10 base T (old coax) that I'd like
to use. Can anyone tell me if, or how I can get Linux (Mandrake 8.2)
to recognize it? I've tried playing a bit in the Control Center/
