I said disable your plug 'n play !
because it conflicts with the linux detectionn.. but don't believe me read
more about it on mandrake page !
but anyway you must disable you plug 'n play (which is a windows thingy
anyway)

at booting type linux 2
and reconfigure with Xconfigurator
of xf86config
sure no problem just buy yourself a controller card...

are your cd-roms scsi ??
if not check your lilo.conf might see that lilo is configured for a scsi
while it is not !
if zo delete it and rerun lilo...
if the at rebooting it asks tells you something is removed choose for option
keep current conf
