Good tip-offs Steve, I try to avoid all the twisted freaks.

While looking for the ZDTV Guide I found ZDU. And guess what they use to
teach UNIX? Linux ! I enclosed a copy of the course offering.

The "Idiot" book was a big surprize to me. I saw it today discounted at
12.50. With the KDE, dialup coverage, essential system tasks including
basics of customing the kernel I couldn't lose. Running Linux is good.

Are the RH manuals you mention really any different than the RH Manual
on the Mandrake CD?
Sam
ly Red Hat with KDE as it's GUI. Any book about Red
Hat will get you started.
However, KDE as far as my search experience has come up with only two
choices.
1. Learn German, I've included a reply from one search:

Concerning login you may have to use the word root then if you wish make
yourself a "user account" name. Use this account name to login. However,
anyone NOT root has limited access over system control and
configuration. This is because Linux (UNIX) is a network OS.

Thanks Steve for the quick reply. I don't see a way of changing the
resolution in KDE printool. If text mode is needed, what are the steps
to getting it done.

I've used test pages in KDE printtool and each test printed correctly
with an Epson 24 pin. However, the lines print too lightly and are
barely readable. Read the Help items.
Set the print head to the closet paper level. Also put in a new ribbon.
That didn't help.
What do you suggest try

My mistake, and I don't mind saying so.

Exactly, COM3 is what I got with the 220 on Win 98, couldn't change it
so back to the Diamond shop it want. I wish it had worked, I sure hope
you get it working ! If you have a PnP modem, can you disable PnP ? Use
JP to configure COM2.

Sorry, Martin, I meant to include you in the Thank You message and not
Steve.
Sam,
Thanks, James, Steve, Andrew
I will use the suggestions. I used some of them before I wrote the
message. I will more than likely start from scratch.

I had similiar problems with the 220. Conflicted with video and the
mouse. I checked the online tips/troubleshooting at Diamond, no help
really. It seemed to need multimedia utilities I didn't have and didn't
want to mess with. I tinkered with it for 3 days and sent it back.

I let "Making ext2 filesytem on /dev/hdb1" run for an hour and a half on
a new 3.2G. I have a P166, 48 RAM, Ultra HD. The filesystem never did
finish, it continued to read "Runnng". Did I wait long enough, if so
what can I do to fix the problem?
In the two books and Mandrake user guide and HOWTO
