I recently upgraded
my Sony Vaio C1F to the new 600Mhz Transmeta Crusoe C1VE.
I'm trying to
install Mandrake 7.2 on there using the hard drive install option, as you don't
get a CD drive with it.
So I'm copying over
both CD's to 'C:\Mandrake' and creating the 'hd.img' boot
disk.
When I boot up it
asks me what directory holds Mandrake.
It successfully
finds where I've put it (I tried a different path and couldn't
continue).
Next the X windows
install screen appears and asks what language I want (English
UK).
I accept the licence
agreement and choose customized install.
Then I choose
Development (I've also tried Server and still had no joy).
Mandrake configures
my PCMCIA Xircom network/modem card.
Then it configures
my USB-storage module (my floppy drive), I then tell it I have no other scsi
interfaces.
After choosing the
UK keyboard layout I believe the next screen is where I encounter the
problem.
I don't choose hard
drive optimisations and choose medium security level.
Mandrake only finds
112mb of RAM, there's actually 128mb ram but I believe the processor uses
some.
Under Windows it
only reports 112mb ram aswell so this is normal.
After clicking next,
the machine just locks up, I've even tried telling it there's 128mb
ram.
I'm puzzled here and
believe the problem to be the amount of memory and the new Transmeta
processor.
I looked around the
Internet for days and found stuff regarding Linus Torvalds working for Transmeta
but still nothing else.
Does anyone else
have any ideas on what's going on or can point me in the right
direction?
I have installed
Mandrake 7 on my prevoius Vaio C1 in exactly the same way without any
trouble.
