[newbie] NIC Problems.

I have been trying to determine the problem that is causing my LED on my NIC 
to drop as soon as my boot reaches Bringing up interface eth0 [ok} . My NIC 
is attached to my cable modem. I have a dual boot and I have connectivity 
through my cable modem in Win98. I am assuming that the LED dropping means 
there is no connectivity, and I can confirm this. So my first step is to 
determine WHY it is dropping. Perhaps someone out there has some ideas?
