i've installed mandrake 9.1 on my laptop as a dual boot with win xp. i recently
created a new partition with partition magic after my linux partition and this seems
to have screwed up my linux boot. booting to linux i get this:

I've heard and read rumors that the version of gcc included in Mandrake 8.0
is bad. As evidence I recently upgraded my nvidia video driver and had to
compile it about 50 times before the module would successfully load. Has
anyone else heard, read, or otherwise experienced the same?
I downloaded LM 8 when it first came out, and installed it on three
computers: mine, my roommate's laptop, and my roommate's desktop. The two
desktop computers are P3 450s with over 128 MB of RAM. The laptop is a P3
mobile 700 (I think that's the clock speed) with 128 MB of RAM. Anyway, the

The betas of 8.0 have been using lilo as a
bootloader... but one of the things I liked about LM 7.2 was that it used grub
as it's primary boot loader and all I had to do was tell it where my other os
was and it loaded neccesary files with a chainloading system. Lilo
cannot do this. So did

I had this problem. There are actually two different DHCP clients available
for Linux (I had this problem under Mandrake 7.0), (check your RPMs to see
if this is the case in 8.0). I found that one worked great, the other
didn't work at all for me.

Yes, I'm running Mandrak 7.2, NVidia (Geforce2 MX), and ReiserFS. I hand
installed my XFree86 4.0.2 and get the source RPMs, ran rpm --rebuild
NVIDIA_kernel*, installed the resulting RPM (found in /usr/src/RPM/RPMS) and
then ran rpm --install NVIDIA_GLX*, and then rebooted the computer for good
