I want to recompile my kernel. The problem i am having is this.
I do the required make dep clean bzImage
then make modules modules_install
after this i do the cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinux-???
then do cp Sytem.map /boot/Sytem.map-???
after this i run lilo
but when it boots

hold on a sec i had the same prob with mandrake 6.0 myself. What i did was
download the kernel source and did it that way worked for me. I think what
it is is it can't understand the mdksmp part right it freaks it somehow?

if so click on archiver and open the file
it will ask you where to put it /root is fine.
after opening it there is a file in it called install read it and it will
tell you how to do the rest.

Someone had written in the other day about scsi-emul for ide-cdr.
That one of the kernels in 6.1 was already sewt up for it. Which one is it and
how do i get it to work? I've tried everything. Can someone pls write in
exactly what needs to be done. So I cab use my cdr. I had it working in

I had the same thing using mandrake60 also the only way i found around
it was to redo the kernel and get rid of the mdk and if ya have it smp on the
label

I have tried numerous times to recompile my kernel. I run make dep after the
changes and then make clean. Before I make bzImage. I then do make modules
and then make modules_install . My problem is when I go to reboot it can never
find the modules and stops there during the boot. I ran 5.3

I am trying to install vmware on my mandrake box when i do the configure
it comes up and say's im useing the wrong kernel? i'm useing the
2.2.9-27mdksmp
kernel i have duel 350 p2's. do i need to just rename my kernel to
2.2.9-27?
i think the mdksmp on the end is messing it up?
