I know how to configure it.
GRUB probably is better but I'd have to learn it first.

The filter architecture in KOffice 1.0 in Mandrake 8.0 was really poor.
Download the KOffice 1.1 RPMS for Mandrake 8.0 from www.koffice.org.
That can read excel files nicely!
