I don't know about your other issues, but you can always use 'df' or 'df -h'.
The -h option tells df to print numbers for humans like KB and MB.

as long as VMware concerns, make sure the devices are "conected" to the
virtual machine if you're trying to use Fdisk on a floppy. Look on the
