Take a look at 'portsentry'
go to http://freshmeat.net/
and search for it - I find it's pretty good.

Most of the Mandrake installation is to your / partition so having 1GB of
free space dosen,t mean that you have that much space available for the
installation.

Kelly,
If you're really new to Linux you're better off using LILO. You will

Run # cat /proc/pci. this will give a listing of all the PCI cards Linux
found in your system. There should be a listing for your sound card and it
will give you your IRQ, DMA, and I/O range.
Or. If you are also running Windows go into System, Device Mgr., Sound

Depending on the age of the drive: are you operating this HDD in 66MHz

As root you should install staroffice with the /net option. Then, as user, go
into the /path/to/staroffice/bin dir, and run the setup located there. Then you

I've been fortunate enough to work with someone I will, for the time being,
dub a linux guru, and he recommended three books from O'Reilly and

Running Linux - 3rd Edition
Linux in a Nutshell - 2nd Edition

The "boot from lan" option is used to boot a diskless client over a LAN. Instead
of booting off its own harddrive, it will boot off a harddrive of another

Yes, in the /boot dir. Should be a sym link to a vmlinuz-.
I'd reccomend that you name your new kernel in the same way and redirect
the sym link to this new file, then add an entry in your lilo.conf so it
can boot from the old kernel in case something went wrong.
