Actually, what I did was simpler. I remembered that after a format the system has sound, but as it locks in the install if I try to set up the network I skip that part. So I then boot to linux, and have sound. I then set up the network and no sound.. My solution was simple - take the eth0 o

[newbie] Crystal Chipset & NetGear irq(?) conflict

Finally figured out the root of my sound problem. Apparently my Netgear PCI (jumperless) NIC and my Crystal Sound onboard sound card use the same irq/DMA/IO. I reformated last night, used sndconfig to set my sound at diff irq/dma/io's. Then turned on the nic. Had sound and internet. Reboot
