try doing a complete re-install instead of an UPGRADE...
first, format all linux partitions...and start over from
scratch

IMO, as much as I like it.I don't RECOMMEND to anybody to
change over to Linux. They would have to have a REAL desire to change,
and I warn them about the frustrations. A couple of people I have told NOT to
change.
